For private clients a referral is not required. However, some private health insurers may offer rebates for psychological services. We recommend:

• you check to see if you are covered by ancillary benefits insurance (the extras table)
• the psychologist you see needs to be approved by your health fund. Check your heath fund for level of cover of services provided by a Generalist Registered Psychologist.
• check if your health fund is one that requires a medical referral.

You must decide if you wish to claim through Medicare OR your Private Health Fund.
